My Bucket List

So this year I decided not to make any New Year's resolutions that I couldn't fulfill. Instead, I made a bucket list of things that I'd like to try to complete someday. Disclaimer: This list is in no particular order and is subject to change!

1. Take a photography class and become a semi-professional photographer. I'd really like to take portraits- individual and family.

2. Go on a family missions trip somewhere. I'd love to have us all serve in an orphanage and open the girls' minds to the fact that not everyone lives like they do in the Frisco bubble.

3. Make a CD recording of my own contemporary hymn arrangements for piano.

4. Be in a flash mob.

5. Play in a quartet with my girls: I'll have to learn the viola, Chloe and Sophie can play 1st and 2nd violin, and Ellie can play cello. I LOVED being in a quartet with my brother growing up, and I miss it so much. We'd have to come up with some catchy name!

6. Write a book about my mom. She is such a complex, strong, and fascinating woman. I would want to explore the psyche and personal history of this quintessential tiger mom.

7. Try out Title Boxing. Don't mess with this little Asian!!

8. Memorize the book of James. I know it seems crazy to attempt to memorize a 5 chapter book of the Bible. However, I did try it one year and I got to Chapter 4, then my brain sort of shut down. This book has been called the Proverbs of the New Testament, so I think it would only benefit me to have the verses tucked away in my mind forever.

9. Travel with Todd and the girls to the town of Meinershagen in Germany. According to one of my friends from Germany,"Meinershagen" is right off the Autobahn and there is a Meinershagen castle! Maybe Todd is a long lost prince!!! :)

10. Travel. Everywhere. To Paris, London, Dubai; go on a real African safari, ride in a gondola in Italy, visit Israel and pray in the garden of Gethsemane, see the artwork of Michaelangelo, I could go on and on for this one. I also want to take the family to South Korea someday to visit their other roots. They have never been and I haven't been since I was nine.

11. Learn the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2 in C Minor and perform it with a full orchestra. I would also like to re-learn the Max Bruch Violin concerto No. 1 in G minor and play it with a full orchestra. These 2 are my all-time favorite pieces for each instrument, and both concertos will make a music lover out of any non-musician. If I could perform both on the same night, that would be icing on the cake!! I have started learning the Rach #2; it currently takes me 2 1/2 hours to play through all 3 movements. It should only take about 1 hour, so I have a long way to go!! I don't even know why I am practicing it; I just know that I want to perform it someday and I truly feel like I've been to therapy when I practice it. The music is that good.

12. Read some classic books that I am embarrassed to say I have never read. So embarrassed that I will not even list them!!

Ok, so I am 36 years old right now. How long will it take me to complete these items? Who knows? But I like having them written out so that I can work towards them and dream a little. . .
